OPTIXNANO CLAY MITT — USAGE, AFTERCARE & STORAGE

What It Does

The OptixNano Clay Mitt removes bonded surface contamination such as rail dust, brake dust, industrial fallout, and stubborn road grime that washing alone cannot remove. It restores surface smoothness and prepares vehicles for polishing, protection, or coating maintenance.

SUITABLE SURFACES

The OptixNano Clay Mitt can be used on:

  • Painted surfaces

  • Waxed or ceramic-coated paint (with care)

  • Glass

  • Chrome and metal work

  • Most other hard, non-porous surfaces

When used on waxed or coated paint, always ensure excellent lubrication and use very light pressure only. Firm rubbing may reduce wax or coating performance.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • OptixNano Clay Mitt

  • Weak soapy water mix in a spray bottle (500ml mix : approx 20ml car wash to 480ml of water. Does not need to be exact.)

  • Bucket of soapy car wash water

  • Clean microfiber drying towel

HOW TO USE

1. Wash & Dry the Vehicle

Wash the vehicle thoroughly to remove loose dirt and grit.
Dry the vehicle completely before claying.

Claying should never be done on a dirty surface.

2. Prepare Your Lubrication

  • Mix a soapy water solution in a spray bottle

  • Use car wash shampoo diluted lighter than normal wash strength

  • The solution should feel slick, not foamy

A bucket of soapy car wash water is also recommended to rinse and keep the clay mitt lubricated during use.

3. Spray the Panel

Spray the weak soapy water mix generously onto the section you want to work on.

  • Usually one full panel at a time

  • Or half a panel if the surface is drying too quickly

The surface must remain wet at all times.

4. Clay the Surface

Take the OptixNano Clay Mitt from the bucket of soapy water and gently rub the surface back and forth using very light pressure.

  • Do not scrub

  • Let the mitt glide

  • If any drag is felt, apply more soapy water immediately

5. Rinse, Dry & Inspect

Once the section feels smooth:

  • Rinse with clean water

  • Dry with a clean microfiber towel

If contamination remains:

  • Re-spray with soapy water

  • Repeat the process

IMPORTANT TIP

If after 2–3 passes the surface is still not smooth:

  • A traditional clay bar may be required, or

  • The surface may need polishing, not further claying

Do not increase pressure to force results.

WHEN TO USE A CLAY MITT

  • Before ceramic coating application

  • Prior to polishing or paint correction

  • As part of coating or wax maintenance

  • When paint, glass, or metal feels rough after washing

AFTERCARE & CLEANING

During Use

  • Rinse the mitt regularly in the soapy water bucket

  • Gently massage the clay surface by hand to release debris

After Use

  1. Rinse thoroughly under clean water

  2. If heavily soiled, soak briefly in warm water with mild car shampoo

  3. Rinse until water runs clear

Drying

  • Gently squeeze out excess water

  • Do not wring or twist

  • Air dry away from heat or direct sunlight

STORAGE

Home / Consumer Storage

  • Once dry, place a sheet of silicone paper on the clay side

  • This prevents the clay surface from sticking to packaging or containers

  • Store in a clean, sealed pouch or container

Professional / Detailing Shop Storage

  • The mitt may be stored in a dust-proof container

  • Leave the clay mitt soaking in clean, weak soapy water

  • Ensure the container remains sealed and contamination-free

DO NOT

❌ Use firm pressure
❌ Clay on dry or dirty surfaces
❌ Store clay surface directly against plastic or fabric
❌ Continue claying if results are not improving
