Repainted panels and ceramic coating: when patience matters
A repainted panel should not be ceramic coated because a generic online timetable says it is ready. Paint systems, repair methods, bake cycles and warranty conditions differ. The paint shop that completed the repair is the first source for cure and coating guidance.
Ask the repairer before preparing the panel
Tell the repairer exactly what protection you plan to apply and ask for written guidance where possible. Confirm whether polishing, solvent wiping or coating could affect their warranty. If the repairer has not approved the next step, wait.
Inspect the finish honestly
Once the repairer confirms the panel is ready, inspect it under useful lighting. Look for sanding marks, overspray, texture differences, dust nibs, masking edges and contamination. Ceramic coating does not hide those defects. It can make some differences easier to see.
Do not automatically polish fresh paint. Correction removes material and may conflict with the repairer’s instructions. If correction is required, agree on the goal and safe method first.
