Coating applicators and microfibre towels: control, rotation and safe disposal
A ceramic coating job becomes much easier to control when every applicator and towel has a defined role before the bottle is opened. Clean tools help prevent cross-contamination, missed residue and accidental reuse of material that has started to cure.
Prepare more than one clean towel
There is no honest universal towel count because vehicle size, panel shape and the product instructions all matter. Prepare enough clean, suitable microfibre towels to replace any that become loaded, damp, contaminated or dropped.
Keep the coating cloths and applicators sealed or covered until needed. Separate them from towels used for washing, wheels, interiors or polishing residue.
Give every towel a job
- Initial levelling: removes the main residue from the working section.
- Final inspection: checks for remaining smears or high spots.
- Backup: replaces a towel that becomes loaded or contaminated.
Use different colours or labelled containers so the roles remain obvious. Fold towels into clean faces and rotate them deliberately. Do not keep using one face simply because it still looks clean.
Control the applicator
- Confirm the applicator is clean and suitable for the current coating.
- Apply only as directed by the current label or OPTiX instructions.
- Work in manageable sections that you can apply, level and inspect properly.
- Stop using an applicator if it becomes dirty, damaged or begins to harden.
- If it touches the floor, remove it from paint work immediately.
Do not return cured residue to delicate paint
Coating residue can harden in towel fibres. Do not assume a used coating towel is safe for paint because it has been washed. Follow the current product, label and local disposal guidance, and keep uncertain towels away from paint, glass and other delicate surfaces.
Final checkpoint
Before moving to the next panel, inspect the section with useful lighting from more than one angle. If residue remains, deal with it within the current product instructions rather than adding more coating or rubbing harder.
