A ceramic coating records the condition you leave underneath it. If the paint is contaminated, oily, damp or badly finished, the coating will not correct that for you.

Where OP888 can be used

Tools, products and PPE

Have everything ready before the bottle is opened:

  • OPTiX OP888 in the selected 30 mL or 50 mL size;
  • a clean microfibre or foam coating applicator;
  • at least three clean, suitable microfibre removal towels;
  • protective gloves;
  • strong, even inspection lighting;
  • safe washing and decontamination products appropriate to the vehicle;

Set up the working area

1. Inspect the vehicle first

Check for failing clear coat, recent repairs, overspray, deep defects, water spotting, old protection and contamination. Agree on the realistic finish before correction begins. A coating should preserve the result you have deliberately produced, not hide a problem you have ignored.

2. Wash thoroughly

Use a suitable automotive wash process to remove loose dirt and road film without adding avoidable scratches. Clean panel gaps, badges, trim edges, mirrors, wheels and the areas where water can continue to drain after drying.

3. Remove bonded and chemical contamination

Use the least aggressive suitable decontamination method for the surface. Inspect again after this step. Contamination can mask defects, and mechanical decontamination can leave marring that needs polishing before coating.

4. Correct or polish where required

5. Remove residue and oils

6. Dry the whole vehicle

Water hiding in mirrors, handles, badges, panel gaps and trim edges can run across the coating area. Blow out or carefully dry those locations and allow them to stop releasing moisture before application begins.

How to apply and level OP888

Common mistakes

Starting before the vehicle is ready

Rushing preparation usually creates more work later. If water is still dripping, polishing oils are smearing or the paint needs more correction, the coating bottle should stay closed.

Working too large an area

A large section can become difficult to level evenly, especially around curves and body lines. Reduce the working area until you can apply, level and inspect it with control.

Trying to make one towel last

A loaded towel moves residue instead of removing it cleanly. OP888’s current product information calls for at least three suitable removal towels. Prepare extra towels for larger or more complex jobs.

Inspecting from only one position

A section can look clean from directly above and still show residue from the side. Change the light angle and your viewing position before moving to the next panel.

Adding more product to fix every problem

The towel is dragging

Move to a clean towel face or replace the towel. Check that the panel is cool and that the working section is not too large. Confirm your application and levelling method against the current directions.

A dark or rainbow patch remains

Inspect it immediately under strong lighting and follow current OPTiX guidance for fresh residue. If the area has hardened or you are unsure, stop. Aggressive rubbing or random chemical use can make the correction harder.

Water appears from a mirror or panel gap

Stop coating that area, dry the source properly and recheck the surrounding surface. Do not wipe water across a freshly applied section and continue as if nothing happened.

The finish underneath is not good enough

Do not coat it simply because the booking is running late. Correct the finish safely, reset the customer’s expectation or reschedule the application. Coating a defect makes the handover conversation harder, not easier.

Aftercare

Follow the current cure instructions before exposing OP888 to water or cleaning chemicals. After that period, wash regularly with a suitable pH-neutral automotive shampoo, clean microfibre wash media and gentle drying methods.

Remove bird droppings, insects, tree sap and harsh contamination as soon as practical. Avoid abrasive sponges, aggressive chemicals and poor wash technique. A coated car can still develop swirls, water spots and wear when it is maintained badly.
