Glass coating is one of those jobs that looks simple until poor preparation leaves haze, residue or wiper problems directly in the driver’s line of sight. The coating step is short. The inspection work is what keeps the result safe and usable.

What OP888 can do on suitable exterior glass
On correctly prepared compatible exterior glass, OP888 forms a protective ceramic layer intended to support easier cleaning and resistance to normal chemical exposure. It does not repair chips, remove scratches, restore delaminated glass, correct damaged tint or make a windscreen maintenance-free.
A coating cannot hide contamination. Mineral deposits, traffic film, silicone residue, old dressings, polishing oils and bonded particles need to be dealt with before coating. Whatever remains underneath will still be visible after the job.
Suitable and unsuitable surfaces
OP888 is listed for suitable exterior glass. Before starting, confirm that the surface is automotive glass in stable condition and that no manufacturer instruction, applied film, special coating or warranty restriction prevents treatment.
Do not assume OP888 is suitable for:
- Interior glass or the inside surface of aftermarket tint.
- Polycarbonate, acrylic or other transparent plastics.
- Camera lenses, lidar covers, sensor windows or head-up-display components.
- Mirrors with special coatings or unknown construction.
- Cracked, chipped, heavily scratched, delaminating or otherwise unsafe glass.
- Recently replaced or treated glass where the installer’s cure or warranty requirements are not complete.
Never coat over a camera or sensor simply because its cover looks like glass. If the material or manufacturer requirements are uncertain, leave it untreated.
Extra care around the windscreen
A side window can be inspected without affecting the driver’s main field of view. A windscreen cannot. Before coating a windscreen, check the glass condition, wiper blade condition and current vehicle manufacturer guidance. Replace damaged or contaminated wiper blades where required before they are dragged across a prepared or coated surface.
If coating residue, haze, distortion or wiper chatter affects visibility, do not drive the vehicle until the cause has been safely corrected. A cosmetic result is never more important than clear vision.

Keep coating towels separate from towels used on tyres, interior dressings, oily door shuts or polishing compounds. Cross-contamination is a common reason for glass smearing.
Environment and surface checks
Work out of direct sun in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area. The glass must be cool and completely dry. Strong lighting from several angles is essential, but also inspect from inside the vehicle because residue that looks acceptable from outside can become obvious against a dark interior.
Check edges, rubbers, trims, wiper rests and the base of the windscreen for trapped water. Moisture can emerge during application and interrupt the coating film.
How to prepare automotive glass for OP888
- Identify the surface. Confirm it is suitable exterior automotive glass. Exclude transparent plastics, sensor covers and unknown specialist surfaces.
- Inspect for damage. Look for chips, cracks, deep scratches, delamination, damaged tint edges and existing optical distortion. Repair or professional assessment comes before coating.
- Wash the surrounding vehicle first. Dirt running from the roof, pillars or trims can contaminate freshly prepared glass. Complete the dirty work before final glass preparation.
- Clean the glass thoroughly. Remove normal traffic film using compatible glass-cleaning products and dedicated towels. Work the edges and lower windscreen area without flooding seals or electronics.
- Assess bonded contamination. Feel and inspect the dry glass. Mineral deposits, overspray, sap and bonded particles may need additional treatment. Use only a process approved for that glass and follow the product directions.
- Polish only when necessary. Glass polishing can remove some stubborn contamination, but it is not a casual step. Incorrect pads, abrasives, pressure or heat can create distortion or damage surrounding materials. Stop if you do not have a verified method.
- Clean the wiper contact area. Contamination at the wiper rest can be transferred straight back across the windscreen. Inspect the blades and do not reuse blades that are damaged or loaded with residue.
- Remove polishing oils and cleaner residue. Use a suitable coating-preparation product compatible with the surface. Turn towels frequently rather than spreading residue.
- Dry edges and recesses. Pay attention to the lower windscreen edge, trims, window channels and mirror bases. Allow hidden moisture time to emerge, then dry again.
- Perform a final vision check. Inspect outside and inside under different lighting. The glass should be clean, cool, dry and free from haze before the coating bottle is opened.
How to apply OP888 to suitable exterior glass
- Read the current OP888 directions. Confirm PPE, working conditions, levelling method and cure requirements for the bottle you are using.
- Plan manageable sections. Divide a windscreen or large rear window into sections you can apply, level and inspect without rushing. Smaller side windows may still need more than one section.
- Protect unapproved adjacent materials. Control the applicator around rubbers, trims, painted edges, cameras and sensor areas. Do not flood seams.
- Load a clean applicator. Apply enough product to create a controlled, even film. More product is not automatically better.
- Spread methodically. Use an overlapping pattern so the intended section is covered without missed lines or heavy edges.
- Level according to the current label. Do not copy the timing from another coating or from yesterday’s weather. Use one towel to remove and level residue, then a separate clean towel for the final pass.
- Inspect from multiple angles. Move the light, view from inside and outside, and use a dark background where helpful. Look for rainbowing, smears, high spots and residue at edges.
- Resolve concerns before continuing. If a section looks wrong, stop and follow the current correction directions. Do not coat the rest of the vehicle while hoping the problem will disappear.
- Repeat in a consistent order. Maintain a clear path around the glass so areas are not missed or coated twice accidentally.
- Complete the final safety inspection. Confirm the driver’s field of view is clear before the vehicle is moved.
- Follow the current cure instructions. Protect the surface from water, wiper use, cleaners and contamination for the period stated on the current OP888 directions.

- No haze, dark patches, rainbowing or residue can be seen from inside or outside.

Common glass-coating mistakes
Coating over mineral deposits
A coating does not make existing water spots disappear. Clean, assess and correct the glass first using a verified process.
Using contaminated towels
Fabric softener, tyre dressing, polishing oil and previous chemical residue can all create smearing. Use clean, dedicated towels and replace them early.
Working on warm glass
Heat changes working behaviour and reduces control. Move the vehicle out of direct sun and allow the glass to become cool before continuing.
Ignoring the inside view
Residue can be difficult to see from outside. Sit in the driver’s position and inspect through the glass under different lighting before calling the job finished.
Guessing the flash or cure time
Conditions and current product directions matter. Use the label supplied with the coating rather than copying a timing from a different product or video.
Troubleshooting
I can see haze or a high spot
Stop immediately and follow the current OP888 correction directions. Do not add random solvents or aggressively polish the windscreen while visibility is uncertain.
The wipers chatter after coating
Do not assume the coating is the only cause. Inspect blade condition, contamination, residue and glass preparation. If safe operation is affected, do not drive until the problem is corrected.
Water appeared from an edge during application
Stop, dry the area and allow trapped moisture to emerge. Repeat the final preparation check before recoating any affected area.
The coating seems to drag during levelling
Check glass temperature, section size, towel loading and applicator condition. Replace contaminated tools and return to smaller, controlled sections.
Aftercare
After the current cure requirements have been met, clean the glass using compatible products and dedicated towels. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals and dirty wiper blades. Remove insects, sap and mineral contamination before they become difficult deposits.
